WhatsApp Update Accommodates 2 Profiles at Once, Introduces Gen AI Features
On Thursday, WhatsApp announced some new updates to account management, chat functionality, and inter-device data transfer.
Starting with the most helpful ones (from my perspective), WhatsApp now lets two accounts stay logged in simultaneously on iPhones after originally keeping that feature exclusive to Android. Once a user has logged in to both accounts, each account's profile picture appears in the bottom tab to help the user identify which one they're currently using. This precludes iPhone users from having to download the WhatsApp Business app—a common workaround for those requiring access to two separate profiles.
Secondly, users can now find and delete large files directly within any chat. This is super useful, as external storage is getting expensive by the day, and cloud storage is just an extra monthly subscription. By tapping the chat name and choosing Manage Storage, users can decide what to clear and what to keep.
The update also offers an easier way to transfer chat histories between iOS and Android—something I've personally struggled with in the past. This new feature makes it easy to move messages, photos, and videos across ecosystems.
Meta, WhatsApp's parent company, has also added new tools powered by Meta AI. Users can touch up photos directly in chats, change chat backgrounds, or try creative styles before sending an image. Some users may not see these options immediately, as Meta AI is slowly rolling them out across different regions.
Finally, Meta claims that AI Writing Help has become smarter and now offers suggested responses based on recent chats.
These updates will reach all users over the coming weeks on both Android and iOS.
