Apple's First Foldable iPhone Faces New Hurdles, But a September Launch Still Looks Likely

Apple's first foldable iPhone appears to be on thin ice after two major reports offered conflicting perspectives on its development plans.

Nikkei Asia says the project has encountered engineering challenges in test production, with sources warning that the issues are more complex than Apple anticipated. These seem to stem from an engineering challenge within the supply chain, and while it won't alter Apple's overall foldable strategy or cancel the product, the brand has reportedly informed some suppliers about possible launch delays.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports that the so-called iPhone Fold "remains on track" for a September debut. Citing people familiar with the matter, the report says Apple still plans to launch the new model this fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro line.

For now, a September reveal still looks probable, but initial volumes and in‑store launches could end up more constrained than Apple initially planned if these issues take a while to iron out.
