Gemini can now generate files in Google Docs, PDF, Word with just a prompt
Gemini can create full documents from a single prompt without you having to leave
Workspace, Microsoft, PDF and other file types are all supported
Workspace Intelligence targets enterprises to add further context
Google
has announced an important new update to Gemini allowing it to generate entire formatted, downloadable and editable files and documents with a single prompt.
By removing the need to copy and paste content from Gemini into an app like Google Docs, it's designed to let users go from idea to finished document without having to leave the Gemini interface. "You can quickly move from a brainstorm to a complete file without ever leaving the Gemini app," Maryam Sanglaji wrote in a
blog post
.
But more importantly, and in Google's apparent effort for interoperability, you can generate much more than Google Docs, Sheets and Slides.

You can generate multiple file types with Gemini
As well as the top three Workspace file types, Gemini now lets users generate .pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .csv, LaTeX, Plain Text (TXT), Rich Text Format (RTF) and Markdown (MD) files in a big push to convince more workers to switch to Google's AI
chatbot
. As of early 2026, Gemini accounted for around 7.2% of all AI chatbot interactions (via
Statcounter
), putting it far behind ChatGPT which represents 80.5% of the market.
The tool works by turning user prompts into fully prepared documents, with more detailed prompts more suitable for creating accurate documents that don't need as much editing.
An animation in Google's post shows a user adding images of handwritten notes into the prompt field, asking Gemini to create a file based off the information included.
The news comes just days after Google Cloud launched
Workspace Intelligence
, a new connective layer that gives Gemini access to enterprise data to provide the chatbot with more context and information to generate Workspace file types.
While the update may not position Gemini as a fully autonomous agent, it makes reactive generative AI considerably more powerful and efficient.
